...WILL HUMBLE THEMSELVES...

Dear Heavenly Father, today, I am burdened to lift up our nation to You in prayer. We are a proud, stiff-necked people, and we have turned from Your commands and precepts and chosen our own wisdom over Yours. We are self-reliant and seek our own truth over Yours. As I write this, I am convicted of my own self-sufficiency and my tendency toward becoming worldly in my thinking and attitude.
There is a definite lack of humility, and faith is hindered greatly by this. I am reminded of Jesus' preaching in Matthew 5:3 where He says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." We know that to be "poor in spirit" there must be humility and an honest accounting to oneself that we are in desperate need of a savior. We need to acknowledge our fleshly tendency to think we can have all the answers and that truth is our own to craft to fit our liking. For these reasons and many more, I seek Your forgiveness for myself and our nation. I pray that You would help us all see Your truth as a beacon of hope for righteous living and for bringing You glory. We acknowledge that Your truth is the only truth and without believing in You, there is no hope.
We can take encouragement in Your Word which says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that if we practice humility, offer sincere prayer and seek You, that You will heal our land. Help me and other believers to claim that promise and to plead with You to open the eyes and hearts of Your people. Help us to be bearers of the truth in humility, that we may be a light to the dark world around us. Forgive me, Lord. Restore me and our nation! In Jesus' name, Amen.
